Don’t pack your bags for Havana quite yet – unless you’ve got family in Cuba, her borders are still closed to any ol’ US citizen.

President Obama has been working hard to loosen travel restrictions for Cuban-Americans. Finally, Cuban-Americans have unlimited passage to visit their family members living on the island nation.  Along with bringing these families closer, this action will bring more satellite and cellular communication services to Cuba, and also allows for people in the States to send as much money as they like to their family members living in Cuba (so long as they are not members of the Communist party.) Previously, Cuban-Americans were only allowed to travel back to Cuba once every 12 months.

For avid travelers from the US, Cuba has been an untouchable tropical temptress. According to an article on the Huffington Post, Cubans who were interviewed say that opening Cuba’s doors to all Americans would be extremely helpful to the economy.  Cross your fingers!

I think it is so stupid we cannot travel to Cuba. Come on, it is 2009 and we should be free to choose where we can and cannot travel. Yes, I understand some parts of Cuba are communist, right? However, the USA is being Communist by not allowing the citizens to travel anywhere they please. Get over it, forgive and forget and maybe the two economies and help each other.
