Last night I had a dream about this place – but it was more of a nightmare…

The luscious filetti were deep fried and tough, and the home-made ravioli shaped like mezzaluna never showed up. Does this make me a food addict? Perhaps, more on that later, and more to drool over, now.

I’m talking about Trattoria Il Giova, a small cozy restaurant along Borgo La Croce, an easy walk from the center of Florence.

The house wine is served in unlabeled bottles – grown and produced by the owners themselves.  I have never found more honest food at a restaurant.  Each dish is prepared per order – even the ravioli and pasta cut and shaped when ordered.  Il Giova is a true Italian dining experience, you can spend an entire evening here, drinking wine and savoring every bite.  If you order beef (if you don’t, you’re really missing what this place is all about), it’s going to come rare and incredibly tender.

You must make a reservation ahead of time, since there are very few tables that will certainly fill up any day of the week.  This said, you’re certainly going to bump elbows with quite a few friendly Florentines, so settle in, and enjoy the experience one bite at a time!
