Zoombu (www.zoombu.co.uk) is a new travel search engine that compares thousands of routes involving many modes of transport (flights, ferries, trains, driving, and transfers) to find the cheapest, fastest or greenest door-to-door way to your destination.

Zoombu is fully independent and takes into account prices and journey details for hundreds of suppliers including 150 airlines, 100 ferry operators, 50 hire car providers, multiple specialist transfer firms and local bus and train services. The service is currently in Beta and serves searches from the UK to Europe, but will be expanded to include global coverage for many suppliers in the coming weeks.

Let’s take for example a skiing trip to Courchevel in the French Alps. There are lots of possibilities for transport to get there. You could travel by plane (flights to Lyon, Chambery, Torino and many others), high-speed train or use the ferry and drive. The whole process of comparing all these options takes a lot of time. Instead, you can simply tell Zoombu your home address, the address of your destination and it will consider all nearby airports, the associated airport transfer costs, and then do the same for the Eurostar and ferry crossings. By comparing all these travel possibilities in one go, and letting you filter out those routes that make sense for your preferences, it will find your optimal journey – all in one simple search. Earlier this year Zoombu opened up Zoombu Ski which specializes in travel to the French Alps resorts.

If you’re looking to travel to somewhere further a field, Zoombu will do far more than a standard flight search engine, considering all flights between all airports within range of your origin and destination and reveal options and prices for connecting to these airports. It helps you to pick out the overall optimal route, without having to know anything about which airlines fly where. Winner of the Eye for Travel Best Travel Start-up title and other significant awards, including being a Seedcamp finalist alongside TripWolf, Zoombu is an innovative product worth considering when planning a journey.

Great post about Zoombu. The founders are friends of mine and they’ve worked really hard over the past few years to build the company to where it is now. It is definitely a great tool!
