London – 48 Hours to Christmas Shop

Christmas is the time to give and receive. This is when everyone, even the usually anti-shops men go shopping for presents. London can get quite manic during this period as people frantically search for the perfect present to give to loved ones.

Kick off your day at one of London’s most popular market, the Portobello Market in Notting Hill. You’ll find all sorts of gifts here ranging from antiques to one-of-a-kind accessories to clothes to wrap you up during these cold wintry days. You may even want to re-live Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant’s on-screen romance by popping into the Travel Bookshop. If you haven’t had enough of markets and you’re around town Tuesday to Friday, go to Spitalfields for a browse round the traders’ market and you will most likely find a bargain or two. You’ll most likely be exhausted by now but you cannot miss out Hamley’s toy store on Regent Street. This is where you’ll find the inner-child in you: you may be 30 but who cares when there’s 7 floors of fun?

On your final day, take it easy and head to Westfield Shopping Centre where you’ll find the high-street stores as well as luxury brands all located in one place, and in heating. Even if the weather changes for the worse, it won’t stop you from taking your credit card out of your wallet. Didn’t manage to finish buying presents? Fret not. If you’re flying out of Heathrow Airport’s Terminal 3, you still have your last chance to max out that credit card of yours. Your only concern will be the bill that’s waiting for you back home!

Some quick tips:

  • It’s Christmas so there will be crowds of people everywhere – watch your bags and beware of pick-pockets.
  • You’re allowed to take a break during your shopping spree. Stop by a cafe for a hot chocolate or that much needed coffee and watch the world go round.
