World Travel Market – Tips and Tricks for Next Year

Filed under Inside Tripwolf, London, Travel Apps, travel writing

World Travel Market has come to a close here in London and I have heaved a huge sigh of relief. As I told you two weeks ago, I attended the 4-day conference-cum-fair-cum-travel-wonderland for the first time this past week, and wow. It was a real eye-opener, in some good ways and some bad. First, and perhaps best, it was a wonderful reminder about how big and incredible our world is and how much of it there is to see. It was also a great reminder that the travel industry is alive and well and doing all it can (as far as I can see) to help people travel better, greener and more aware.

For me as a writer, it was also a tad frustrating. I come from a writer’s background, meaning I can be a little bit shy, reserved and, just generally fare better with the written word than the spoken one. And World Travel Market is all about networking, meeting people and generally being a gutsy good talker. Try sticking a timid, better-on-paper writer in a room with thousands upon thousands of easy-talking PRs and travel agents, and, well, the results can be mixed.

Whatever my personal experience, though, I certainly learned a few tips and tricks that I’d like to pass on to any bloggers or writers out there thinking of going to next year’s WTM. Read More »

tripwolfing it at World Travel Market

World Travel Market is one of the biggest travel industry events in the world. Held each year in London, the market is one huge conference where travel agents, journalists, tourism boards, websites and governments come together to discuss, debate and connect on all things travel. I am rather ashamed to say that, prior to this year and my recent move to London, I had never heard of World Travel Market before, but I am so excited to be going this year!

I’ll be attending this year’s World Travel Market, which is held November 7-10 at ExCeL London, as a jogger (journalist-blogger) on all four days. The first couple of days, I’ll be taking the chance to meet with as many tourism boards, travel agencies and PRs as I possibly can, as well as attending several tweetups, such as the lovely Visit Florida tweetup (@VFWTM #VFWTM) at stand number NA300 on Tuesday from 12-3pm. They’re going to have free wifi and outlets at their stand, as well as the chance to meet the people from Visit Florida and learn about potential blogging trips and other interesting things about the Sunshine State.

The latest in app news:  Our travel apps for the iPhone and Android, which are already known for great offline maps and Augmented Reality, can now help you get around underground.  We’re announcing today the availability to download subway maps for major cities!
Download the Anroid app, free

Download the iPhone app, free

Along with that, we’ve got even more helpful travel info.  For points of interest where we don’t have the best user content we’re integrating info from Wikipedia.  This info will also be available offline (doing as much as we can to save you money and time abroad!) so as you walk around with your map, (looking not like a tourist but like a suave local checking your text messages) you’ll be able to click on the places on your map, and get all the info right there, for free, without roaming or needing WiFi.

The update is live now ~ download or update your app for free!

A Close Up on Startup Week 2011 in Vienna

As some of you might know the tripwolf headquarters are based in a super cool shared office space in Vienna we like to call Spengergasse. Within the last few months a busy team of young people has taken over the space right next to us and as October is getting closer they all seem to work longer hours and have more and more meetings. Why? Well they happen to be the guys (and girls) behind STARTeurope, the organizer of Europe’s first Startup festival from the 3rd -7th of October ever!

So if you’re a start up travel blogger, travel site owner or owner of a startup outside of the travel branch – this is definitely interesting for you. We’ve chatted to Jürgen Furian to find out more about those 5 days in which 35 nations, 50 startups, 70 speakers and 100 investors will come together with around 1000 guests daily.

You’re organizing the first European Startup Conference ever that doubles as a festival. How did you come up with the idea?

The idea of an international 1week startup event has been on our agenda since 2009 when we started with STARTeurope. This year seemed to be the perfect year to put the idea into reality. The idea of a festival was an abvious step for us because we wanted to include the whole Startup ecosystem in Vienna. That’s the spirit behind the STARTUP WEEK. It’s a platform for the European startup community to connect, get to know each other and make business across all kinds of borders.

Our tripwolf CEO Sebastian Heinzel will be one of the speakers. Who else do you have lined up for the conference and who of the speakers will be especially interesting for the travel industry?

We are very happy to have Sebastian on board! He is one of those people with the mindset we need in Europe. A real doer! So far we have around 55 international speakers confirmed. Read More »
